Technical visit to the Bureau of Intellectual Property of Suriname

From 28 November to 2 December 2022, CarIPI organised a technical a visit to Suriname to present the new draft legislation on Design to the Intellectual Property Office of Suriname, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation, and any relevant stakeholders, such as legal drafters and ministry staff. This is to ensure that legislation and recommendations are implemented once delivered.

As part of activity 13 of CarIPI’s third Annual Work Plan, the project provides those countries that are in need of, or working on legal reforms, with support for legal (re)drafting and/or review of laws and regulations. The focus is mainly on trade marks, designs and GIs. The project ensures that TRIPS, EPA and/or other relevant international treaties are taken into account, and that membership in international IP systems administered by WIPO are facilitated.

The event also served for the launch of the Hague Booklet for Suriname: ‘HET HAAGS SYSTEEM - Surinaamse modellen naar de wereld brengen’.

The guide, in Dutch, aims to help designers and entrepreneurs in Suriname to get a clear understanding of the Hague System and its benefits.
